THE POWER OF THE DOG
Ellen Dryden
Lisa Monologue
I picked this for one of my monologues because I though I
could really realate to the character in the piece. She is around my age (17)
and blabbing on about how she didn’t like this play she went to see. i found
the relationship between Lisa and her teacher really interesting think in the
scene it is really highlighted. I really enjoyed reading parts of the play for
it is about a failing school south London .
But the play is mainly based around Vivien Chadwick the head of English
department who is tackling moving house as well as visiting her ill mother and
dealing with Lisa. Lisa a difficult but bright sixth former who Vivien is
engorging to stay on at school and to get her to apply to uni. In the scene I
have picked to do the monoulge Viien is wating for lisa to arrive for an extra
tutorial , lisa turns up late with the “same old exsuses”.

Shona Monologue
This monologue really
court my eye because it came form a play “Revealing, touching and amusing tales inspired by the stories
and experiences of mental health service users. Part of the Scottish Mental
Health” although the character is a lot older than me I thought this monologue
had a lot of depth I could have gone deep in to for they come form someone’s
actual experience making the monologue feel more alive and real. The play
entails a collection of monologues form a variation of mental ill peoples
personal story’s. I this monologue is set in couciling group were everyone
shares there illnesses and how it effects them. Shona talks about her anxiety
and the daily task she does to cope or not cope with it.
RANDOM
Debbie Tucker Green
Sister
The monologue I have chosen
to do form this play is very deep and emotional part. When reading the play
this moment really stood out to me , for this is a very significant part were
the police come around to tell the family that there son is has been stabbed
and the sister (the charature I shall be playing) is in complete denial . The
play random was first performed by Nadine Marshall in 2008. she plays sister,
brother, mum , dad and the teacher. The reason the picked this monologue is because
I really feel for the character “sister” . in this day and age it happens quite
often were young people are getting stabbed weather that be in gangs or on the
street I feel like Ive grown up this this problem all my life and I can connect
with the denial that the charter is in at the certain moment in time because
thing like this happen all the time you don’t expet it to happen to someone
close in you family . The sister had a very boisterous and determination I feel
I can relate to it in some ways. This monongue has so much depth and thought
change in it I feel I will have a lot of fun experimenting with this piece.
